Dramatic Transformation into a Euro-Modern Bathroom

The Concept

Our clients embarked on a whole-house remodel with us, and reinventing their master bathroom was one of the main goals. The home unfortunately had severe water damage and mold in the bathrooms due to bad air flow which forced the clients to move out. We knew we needed to remove the hazards from the house and give our clients a brand new space. The homeowners have a daughter going to school overseas, and when they visited her, they stayed in an Airbnb that inspired them to achieve a Euro-Modern Style in their home.

The Original Bathroom

The original bathroom was cramped, dark, had poor ventilation, broken cabinetry, outdated tile, and mold. The bathtub was surrounded by tile, making it difficult to get in and out.

Creating a New Space

Our clients did not have specific requirements on how the design was presented, but they knew they wanted a larger shower and ventilation. Afraid of mold from the previous situation,  they also wanted little to no grout.

To increase air flow, we centered the window and made the second window operable. We also relocated the tub to center it on the window allowing more room for a larger shower. The vanity and toilet stayed in their existing locations.

The Materials

To avoid grout, we used large-scale, 24 by 48 inch porcelain tile from Silestone in the shower and on the pony wall. For the vanity, the clients were looking for a simple look without dramatic colors. We chose a dark blue heath tile to keep the design subtle and sophisticated. Our clients previously wanted all white cabinetry, but later agreed that the wood tone would warm up the bathroom space and make it inviting.
