Which Kitchen Flooring Materials Get the Most Requests?
Tiled flooring and wood flooring are the two most popular by far. Wood is often chosen when the kitchen floor falls adjacent to a wooden floor in another room. I like it because it evokes a warm feeling. It is also resilient and softer on your feet over time. However, for better ease of maintenance and durability, homeowners will often choose porcelain tile. It is maintenance-free, easy to clean, available in various price points, and looks great.

Are There Flooring Options You Try and Sway Clients Away From?
We always try to give our clients several options that address their aesthetic, maintenance demands and budgets. With that said, I would stay away from laminate floors in the kitchen. If a client requests laminates, I discuss the pros and cons with them. It is the least expensive option, but is also the most susceptible to heavy water damage. While these floors will resist minor stand-alone spills, scratches are highly visible and impossible to repair. Damaged planks must be torn out and new planks installed. Another pet peeve is the hollow sound a laminate floor has compared to other flooring products.
But of course, there is no flooring product that is 100% bullet proof.

Which Floor is Easiest to Keep Clean?
Porcelain tile is the easiest flooring material to keep clean. Used in large format sizes and thin grout joints, this material is virtually maintenance free. Even better, it is paired with an epoxy grout, which is more stain resistant than standard grout.

What Flooring Material Makes the Biggest Style Statement?
There are a number of ways to make your kitchen a statement and how you design your flooring may be one method. You can be daring and create floor patterns with a combination of materials like authentic wood planks and stone tiles. Or you can find the vinyl version of this combination. Your flooring may also be a clever pattern on the floor like a basket-weave or herringbone pattern. You could also simply refinish your wood floors to a lighter (or darker) finish color.
